The social networking giant has now crossed 1 billion active monthly users. This makes Facebook the first social network to cross the 10-figure mark, indicating that one out of every seven individuals on the planet is using the service


Mark Zuckerberg announced the big news in a letter today:
"This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.

0 Google acquires Viewdle, a face recognition company

Google’s Motorola Mobility recently announced that it has acquired augmented reality and image recognition company, Viewdle. Motorola has not yet disclosed the price of the acquisition but industry speculation holds it between $30 million-$45 million.


According to a Motorola spokesperson:
“Motorola Mobility today announced that it has acquired Viewdle, a leading imaging & gesture recognition company. Motorola and Viewdle have an existing commercial agreement and have been collaborating for some time. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.”

Japanese consumer electronics firm Akai has announced the launch of an Android-based digital media device, called the Smart Box. Priced at Rs. 6590, the Akai Smart Box works with all sorts of televisions, be it CRT, Plasma, LCD or LED, and allows users to use TV to browse Internet, play games and use Android apps.


The Akai Smart Box runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is powered by a 1.25GHz processor. The device comes with a wireless mouse for navigation. The Smart Box features 4GB internal storage, card slot that supports storage up to 32GB HDMI port, and 4xUSB2.0 Ports. Other features include built-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, AV port, 3G dongle and 2G network support, built-in IM such as Google Talk, Skype and Yahoo, social networking sites, YouTube video support, preloaded games, access to Android apps via Google Play store and DLNA support.

Priced at Rs. 7,199, the Funbook Talk runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor. The Funbook Talk also supports voice call and comes with built-in 2G connectivity.
